At 1:55pm on January 6, 2008, Finabella said…: stay strong, stick out the training and keep focused on the race ahead...race day, have a blast...pace yourself and take time to enjoy the crowd (it sounds goofy but make sure your name is on your shirt...mail box letters work well and the extra support always helps me). keep hydrated, keep a smile on your face and know that no matter how bad you may feel those last few miles...your mind can overcome it....push it, dig it, grit it and cross that finish line like a mad man. i have learned that it's just not worth it if i'm not having fun....i always take in the views, mess with the crowds lining the streets and drink a little brewsky if there's any along the way. i am still very serious about doing well....but somehow have learned to balance my competitive nature with my fun, crazy and whacko side!!!

There's almost a quarter of a million homes and buisnesses in the Oklahoma City metro area without power and a half million in the state as a whole. I'm actually living at my work because there's power there. The sound of breaking trees fill the air. There's fog and a light mist that will be freezing on everything and later it will start raining again. There have been more thatn a dozen people die so far in the state. All I can say is it's going to be an interesting next couple of days.

About Me:

I'm a Green Marxist that is proud of being from Oklahoma born of Ozark hillbilly parents. I race in duathlons and triathlons and love nature. I am a Buddhist and can eat oatmeal everyday for every meal. I love backpacking, riding my bike, and whisk(e)y. Sometimes together! I have a dalmatian, Carmen Camille, and two rats, Luna Flora and Cosette Eleanor, as companions. I do some work with Food Not Bombs! redistributing discarded food to the homeless. I am training my way up to an Iron-length Triathlon (2.4mi swim-112mi bike-26.2mi run).

First race report of the season a.k.a. I can't get insured for the state that I am in.

It was a beautiful day for racing. The sun was out, it was finally warm, and not very much wind. One of those days that you’d wish could go on forever. I make it to Okarche at about 11AM to check things out and get ready. After preparing everything and riding my bike a few blocks I take it into the transition area to rack and lay out my space. Poor little Cosette

My baby, Cosette, decided to try an escape. The day after Xmas I was home and looked over at their cage to see her hanging halfway out and staying very still. I went over, thinking I was foiling the escape, only to see she had snaged her eye socket on a metal barb. I saw she needed to be pushed on out very carefully so I was going to open the cage and push her from behind, but when I opened the cage, she freaked. New year, new training

Well with the new year come new races and challenges. My first race is 9Mar and is a duathlon (5k run-30k bike-5k run). Then in early Apr is a 10K run, late Apr comes my first half marathon. Mid May is another duathlon (2mi run-10mi bike-2mi run-10mi bike-2mi run) leading up to an Olympic distance triathlon (1.5k swim-40k bike-10k run) the start of June. Ice storm

Boy did we have a doozie. I was without power from Monday morning until sometime Wednesday. At it's peak there were more than 1.5 million customers without power here in Oklahoma. The crazy part was the roads weren't all that bad it's just no one had power. I slept at my work Monday and Tuesday because I had no heat. Luna and Cosette (my rats) stayed with me at the store. C.C.
