The Larger the Colonies, the Larger the Losses - 2007

Each
year I suffer quite a few losses with the rats. Often I take in older
rats that have been neglected or are aging or ill. I cannot stand to
see them suffering in shelters or chance that they end up there because
they are surrendered.
It is very tough for me, and each year I
review whether or not I can take another year of losses like the
previous, but there are so many out there whose fates are grim that I
cannot turn my back to them.

I'm well, hope all is good with you, i've had a hellava few months, my house flooded, made sure everyone was safe (10 rabbits, 4 cavies, 5 mice, 7 fancy rats, and 32 wild rats who were waiting to be transported to release site) it ruined things and was really stinky but no one died so its all good. But last week my beautiful Tasha bunny died (fluffy white bunny in pic on profile) from an unkown virus, it happened so sudennly with no warning, she just suddenly became lethargic, got her to vets and she was in the incubator for 20 mins and she died, i'm devastated she was only 2 an half years old :( The wild rat capture and releases have been going really well though, and its been really effective in reducing the rat/human conflicts.

hey,
i was wondering if you had any idea wat couldve happened to my rat. we got a large tumour surgically removed from her side about 3months ago, and just the last wkend she got really quiet, she lost her appetite and she wasnt moving around much. just a day later she was hardly moving at all and by the next morning she had died. i dont think this has anything to do with the tumour, but i just have no idea what was wrong. i was feeding her oatmeal and liquids with a syringe when she was sick and she has always been kept indoors so shes out of the cold. it was just such a sudden deterioration. she was 2yrs old. any ideas?

you're very welcome, and thank you for your comment! =] that is such a cute picture, i'm going to save it and use it some time.

i've never had a pet rat.. the closest i've had is two dwarf hamsters that a friend of mine gave me. i had them for a few years but unfortunately it's common for them to get tumors. their mom passed from tumors and so did they =[ but i was thinking about adopting a new friend and i might just make it a rat =]

thanks again for your comment
