Hi Govis! It's great to hear that we have something in common. (Wanting to live on a farm someday surrounded by animals.)
Don't worry too much about your protein intake. The health industry and media have brainwashed us into thinking that we need more protein than is truly necessary. In fact, one of the reasons why the rates of osteoporosis is so high in the US is because we consume WAY too much protein and that causes acidity in the body. The body's way of coping with this acidity is to leach calcium from the bones in order to bring the body into a more alkaline state.
If you eat a wide variety of vegetables, you're getting plenty of protein. To put it into perspective, the strongest animals in the world are the Elephant, Gorilla and Horse. And guess what? They are all vegans!
So, best vegan sources of protein include: green leafy vegetables (Kale, broccoli, alfalfa sprouts, spinach), legumes (lentils, chickpeas, tofu, beans), raw nuts and sprouted seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds), grains (barley, millet, wheat), even avocados and tomatoes.
Yes, gym rat I am. But I've been thinking... ONE of the reasons I've chosen a vegan lifestyle is environmental. You know, my gym uses up an awful lot of electricity! Hmmm.......
