I'm vegan. Well, I have to admit when I'm really weak I'll eat a chocolate bar but that's pretty rare. I've been a vegan since April 2006 when I watched the movie, "Earthlings" which gave a detailed description of how factory farm animals are killed and kept - each kind of animals' stories separately, as well as the killings of killer whales and dolphins in Asia, and the treatment of pets in general. It is there I learned that there is such a word as "speciesism" and they compared it to the same way whites treated blacks in the slave days. This movie was completely enlightening. In fact, I only had to watch the first half hour to know that my life had been changed forever. This emense guilt overcame me and I just balled my eyes out. I had to turn it off cause I cried myself into a migraine. But I have watched the whole thing twice now - once to get a friend who hunts to watch it. It doesn't get any easier to watch but I think it's imperative to get these videos watched by people so they see with their own eyes what goes on behind closed doors. Although many people tell me not to send them these horrible things anymore (I send some videos through email forwards). I'm not sure how to get people to change the way I did. I guess I always felt guilty about eating meat and knew it was wrong deep inside. It just took that video to give me the push and I'm soooo happy I did. I will never go back to eating meat!
About Me:
My love for animals is the number one important thing in my life. I wear t-shirts bought from peta to do my little bit for animal activism and I also fabric paint (or embroider - not great at this) animal rights sayings on my clothing. It always gets attention and questions asked so I think I'm making a difference in a small way. I don't buy products that are tested on animals whenever possible - even when it's inconvenient. I encourage my friends to do the same. I live with my brother who's a non-veg*n and that way he just eats what I make on most weekdays - so by doing that I feel I'm saving some animals lives there too. I have 2 dogs and one cat - 2 of which I rescued from the SPCA. I get daily migraine headaches and therefore I am on disability so I can spend lots of time with my pets.
