I would really like to meet other vegetarian parents. Most of my friends are vegetarian or vegan, but no one has kids! It would be great to meet some other people that share this common ground.

Vegetarians joined the celebration of the birthday of Gandhi in India.Anyone who doesn't like non-violent peaceful protests for peace and equality won't like this observance, but I've got to do what I've got to do – people are looking for connections between ghandi October 2nd all over the net. The reason why is that October 2nd was Gandhi's birthday. (There's also contention over where to put the "h" in his name.) Mahatma Gandhi, as he became known, was born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi October 2nd, 1869, and the rest was history. It's a national holiday in India (why wouldn't it be?) and internationally as Non Violence Day. (This year it's on Friday, normally cause for celebration anyway – we got through another week without going insane, and therefore its party time!) So whether you plan on a moment of silence for Gandhi October 2nd, or payday loans for a weekend excursion, it's a holiday.

I feel bad mostly for the children in these situations. It seems it's never about the actual issue at hand whether enforcing a vegetarian diet, bed time, privileges, or any issue that comes up while the kids stay at the other parent's house. Instead it seems the opposing parent is trying to "fight" with or undermine the first parent and is in this power struggle as they try to maintain some sort of control over the ex-partner. It's really unfair to the kids, who then suffer the most by the fighting and lack of stability. The opposing parent is confusing them by not enforcing the same rules at their home while the kids visit. As much as I hate to suggest this but family counseling may help in resolving the issues. If that does not work, you may have to get some kind of mediator or ask a judge to hear the case. Those are more extreme solutions so maybe just keep talking to your children about your views and why you choose to be veg is the most effective way right now. It may take awhile for them to understand what you're saying, to really get it, but in time they may be able to choose for themselves while at the other parent's home and stick to their guns. You could also let your kids know that they could suggest other places to dad that they'd rather go eat, where they would have more non-meat choices. If he insists on going to burger joints then the kids could order fries, apples, salad, fruit salads, and at BK they have mac n cheese now and veggie burgers! Unless he's a real jerk then he shouldn't INSIST they order meat. If so, then we know where his real intentions lie. Just keep talking to and informing your kids. It's not enough to just say don't eat meat! Lol. Good luck to you all. And my wishes to the kids! :)

We are a vegetarian family-when the kids are at their dad's for the weekend he brings them out to eat at hamburger fast food restaurants. He mocks our veg. diet and makes remarks to the kids. My son won't make the choice to not eat meat partly for this reason.
