Also is it was updated that jordan is recieving beans and rice, but i am unsure if that is enough for my reasoning, however i think Mr. Yellow Sunshine Pants because we deal with alot of anti vegan jails here in utah, so any conclusions are appreciated.

Hi Clementine, FFL.ORG has vast experience serving meals to the starving in Eastern nations (and elsewhere), and I asked them to do Jordan a favor on Monday night since Jordan follows an Eastern religion, to write on his behalf with their experience supporting veganism for Taoists (and took some time to briefly collaborate, with some of my own knowledge, having practiced Zen which incorporates elements of Taoism). FFL's director emailed the sheriff this afternoon.

On Friday afternoon, I also wrote to info@timebombproductions.com, who hosts the supportjordan.com website, with two links to legal resources, but I'm not sure if Timebomb Productions will forward that or if he'll even be in jail long enough, etc, for legal action to be a reasonable option.

For anyone who will email the sheriff after today, some snippets from what FFL and I came up with are below, if you'd like to include reasons telling the sheriff why he should serve vegan meals, 24/7/365, to Taoists who request it. Clementine (or others), feel free to repost the asterisked items to other sites (You keep up with the locals better than me...) that are garnering support for Jordan to be served vegan meals, and Clementine please do update this page to note if/when the sheriff starts serving him vegan meals, so people stop emailing if/when the sheriff has honored his request for vegan meals.

If those who I haven't emailed in 2 months see this :-) I haven't forgotten and will email soon, I just haven't had time to be on veghaven at all. I'm not ignoring you guys in favor of others, just thought something like "each day someone's served non-vegan meals" was time-critical.

* Daoism has revered vegetarian diets historically: www.east-asian-history.net/textbooks/PM-China/ch7.htm They simply never heard of or had the nutritional technology to pursue veganism yet, and since factory farms didn't exist, they also didn't yet have the motivations to refrain from eating eggs or dairy yet, as the next few points will show. And no Dao text says lacto-ovo vegetarianism instead of veganism is correct; instead of codifying a certain type of vegetarianism, an example of what's written is:

The Scripture of 49 Chapters, as translated by Silfong Chen says "do not put any living being into suffering"; milk/egg production put them into suffering, unless the animal is protected like sacred cows are in India, in contrast to factory-farms selling them to slaughterhouses. We have statements like that instead of Daoists ever officially or completely endorsing milk or eggs (lacto-ovo vegetarianism instead of, say, fruitarianism or veganism). Vegetarianism was borrowed from Buddhist practices, and Buddhists borrowed it from Hindu practice. Daoists share the belief that you might be eating (or mistreating, e.g. on a factory farm) your own grandmother, so of course the Daoists who are the most educated about factory-farming practices share a commitment to veganism, or at least treating the cows in accord with certain principles that are rarely done in the USA.

* As an example of this, "The Dao Monks from the Hun Deh Temple eat a strict vegan diet," states a member of the temple (community.beliefnet.com/go/thread/view/43861/13753491/Things_Taoist_Do_not_Eat). "Meat, seafood, fish, and fowl, plus onions and garlic, are forbidden."

* Just as some Jews eat pork, others won't eat it on the High Holy Days, and others are 24/7 vegan for religious reasons; Taoists are no different: Some Taoists can be vegan, whilst others are merely lacto-ovo veg, and some eat meat (taoist.org.cn/English/daoism.htm). Or as some Catholics eat a veg meal only on Friday, others eat fish, and others are 24/7 vegan because they think Jesus would be appalled by factory farms -- not from reasons unrelated to their religion. Even if a vegan Christian or Jew has a diet "more vegetarian" than what the majority of his religion do, it's still often a religious/spiritual belief and:

As James Madison, the man who put the word "establishment" in the Constitution said, "Could a Catholic [or vegan Daoist, or Krishna, or Jain, to put it into 21st-century context...] clergyman ever hope to be appointed a Chaplain [to lead Congress in prayers]? To say that his religious principles are obnoxious or that his sect is small [or how about "no matter how few VEGAN Daoists there are"], is to lift the veil at once and exhibit in its naked deformity the doctrine that religious truth is to be tested by numbers...".

Jordan met with a nutritionist today. He was told that they couldn't find a link between taoism and veganism and therefore he could not be fed vegan meals. In less than five minutes of reading about taoism on wikipedia, I came across this:

"At certain dates, food may be set out as a sacrifice to the gods and/or spirits of the departed, such as during the Qingming Festival... At other dates, fasting or vegan diet may be practiced."

We need to call the jail immediately and let them know they must respect Jordan's religious and dietary choices.
