I have to admit it was hardcore that first introduced me to veganism. Insted is/was/will always be one the best ever!
BUT... it's also veganism that has opened my mind to other music, like the conscience hip-hop of Disciples of Discipline, and Naj-One, and even more mainstream stuff like Dead Prez.
What about you? Hip-hop, rap, hardcore, punk, emo??? Did music bring you to veg, or did veg bring you to some new music?

well when I was about 15, I listened to the cure, the smiths, morrisey, (sp?) and nine inch nails and some punk stuff, lots of the fans of that music was vegetarian. Then when I discovered the grateful dead I found lots of support in vegetarianism ther, there were lots of food options in the parking lots before the shows, in the campgrounds between/after shows and I even went to a rainbow gathering and everyone there was vegan or vegetarian, we ate lots of falafel.
So I don't know if the members of the bands I listen to are vegetarian, but I know many of the fans are....
Going to on tour and hanging out with family is what lead me to a vegan path, too. I used to go to lots of shows. we probably walked passed each other at some point. You may even have eaten the food we made sometime in the lot. Used to make up to thirty pounds of good vegan pasta at the shows, no canned junk, fresh veggies, even wine in the sauce. In the later days, and on further tour we would do Jah love donation kitchen, whatever anyone wanted to kick they kicked, and kids that didn't want to, or couldn't we'd just give the food. Made as much $ or more that way. I used to go to gatherings, too. Haven't been since 1998 i think. wish i could go home again! Kids, you know all the rest, i think. There is a Gathering happening now thru Feb near Veracruz, Mexico. If anyone need info get in touch. We love you!
My music tastes have always been on the alternative side. I'm a fan of nine inch nails, guns 'n' roses, garbage, heather nova, nirvana, and eve 6. I do listen to music like kid rock, tupac, fergie, chris isaak, and some other groups. Hanging out with some vegetarian groups has introduced me to indian dance music, celtic music, and some other groups. My music tastes have gotten more varied.
hmmm. bands never encouraged me to become vegetarian exactly, but i totally get more into a band when it is vegan or vegetarian! i think it does really encourage other people thoughhhh. erm, but if a band encourages violence twards animals i dont wanna listen to them. thats very rare thooo. i like a lot of very heavy music so i come across it sometimes i just try to avoid it. like some bands in the grindcore genre which i despise is VERY violent twards animals. like how many of them have names something to do with violence twards pigs? like pig grind massacre or stuff like that. they think its cool, violence. they think it makes them sound badass. its stupid. that doesnt make heavy music...violence, satanic stuff...that is stupid. true heavy music like foriegn metal bands and such sing of the dark things in nature that shows the beauty of the heaviness. its not about that.
