Vegans & Vegetarians making a difference!

First of all let me say my cats are not vegan. I don't necessarily agree with making pets vegan once they are adults because it can lead to stress and can even cause infections if they stop eating. My cats are extremely picky little monsters so I go through all kinds of different foods trying to find something they will eat. Better quality does not always mean they like it.

So far my cats both enjoy the Blue Buffalo brand dry and wet food. Recently I ordered a few cans of Tiki Cat to see if they would eat that and they love it (thank God!). There's very few options in ghetto Kansas City to find decent food so I'm ordering most of it.

So what does your cat enjoy or not enjoy? whether it's regular food or vegan.

I had some overcooked lima beans that were fermenting in my frig...dumped them out in bucket that is on its way to compost...my cat started eating it...maybe miso? fermented bean paste? I think protein is protein....carbs are carbs....fat is fat....I think a cat could live on veggies...look at cheap catfood ingredient labels...mostly all gmo corn, wheat. etc. and garbage from rendering plants...ugh

sure! not only can cats live on veggies, they'll do better because they won't have the obligatory baggage that carnivores carry. one of our cats was veg for 8+ yrs, 2 are headed for their 3rd year and 2 kittens are just starting out for the past month. you can see fireweed's post here. she has 2 cats who have been veg for 13 yrs!

I raised my kitty cat vegetarian.... I feed him a vegetarian dog food that I get at pet-co or petsmart sprinkled with brewers yeast and he looooves tofurkey, and I've taken him for little check-ups, hes totally healthy and a strong lil boy... probably helps that i raised him that way.... he"s my lil baby :o)

that's great melissa!

some of our cats like tofurkey too and nutritional yeast. cats do very well on veg diets - much better than eating the usual commercial crap that's out there. we used to use evolution for several years, but our cats like the hoana stuff much better since the food is freshly prepared (by us) and the specific nutrients cats need like taurine etc are there to mix in with the food. for anyone interested, here are the links for evolution and hoana.

ari also has this great collection of veg cat stuff right here.

actually, it's not that good for the cat either. domestic cats just don't go around eating sus domestica.

I see that this is an old thread but still very interesting. I don't know if you already know about this link (Meetingplace for people with cats who are vegan or becoming vegan):
